Which base snap is the recommended one?

Snapcraft docs on base snaps say:

core20: the newest and recommend base to use, built from Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

Then further down the page:

core18 is the currently recommended base for the majority of snaps.

Which part of the doc should I believe? I want my snap to use some packages which aren’t in Ubuntu 18.04, and I wonder if upgrading to core20 would break something for me.

(There is a similar, older topic on this, but there was no firm conclusion there.)

core20 is recommended over core18.

Currently, core22 can be used when running the latest/beta channel of snapcraft. Eventually, core22 will supersede core20 as the recommended base.
