Snap-store is not starting

In Ubuntu 20.04 LTS the snap-store does not start. When I try to start it from the Terminal I get this message:

x@y:~$ snap-store
21:55:37:0100 Gtk Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
21:55:37:0102 Gtk Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
Speicherzugriffsfehler (Speicherabzug geschrieben)
( the last line is german and means: Memory access error (memory dumped) )

I tried to fix it using the hints on these two links without success:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1231735/snap-store-is-not-coming-up-in-ubuntu-20-04 https://askubuntu.com/questions/1426175/snapstore-not-starting

How can I fix this?

it would be helpful for the developers if all of you could also post the full output the snap version command returns so they can see some essential basic info about your OS …

Change system language to english

Here is the Version:

x@y:~$ snap version
snap 2.56.2
snapd 2.56.2

ubuntu 20.04

snap connections snap-store output ist the same as from kaincenteno.

Axel

As I am using German language settings, I also tried this and snap-store started correctly even from the icon. I assume the problem came up with one of the the last updates of the gnome language packages between 26. and 30.August.

This should be fixed in “edge” right now.

I have the same problem. In fact, on Saturday I installed Ubuntu 22.04 and the snap store stopped working after a few hours. Then I installed 20.04 and now I have the same problem. Like the OP, I’ve tried every fix I’ve found on the internet, but to without success.

I have Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and I have the exact same problem, which started this week after updates I believe. Occurs in both Wayland and X11. I’ve already removed and reinstalled the snap-store, but it didn’t work. All other snaps apps work as they should.

Hello good day!

I captured the debug of the snap-store run, note that several language files have become missing. It is also taking place in Portuguese Brazil.

you are still running revision 558 … as sergio said above, it is fixed in the edge version …

sudo snap refresh --edge snap-store

will get you the fixed one …

to switch back to stable, once the fixed 592 revision has migrated to stable, you can then run:

sudo snap refresh --stable snap-store

Confirmed. I tested here with this Edge version and it opened again! Thanks.

How many days more or less can pass since the stable version would be fixed ? so revision 592 could go to stable ? Suppose that such important bug should be fixed ASAP … Thanks for your work

there are usually some QA processes involved before a release goes to stable for things like regression testing and such (you dont really want to trade a fix for four new fatal bugs or so  )

It works here too. Thank you.
