LTS Track Request for Jenkins Snap

Greetings, the Snapcrafters team would like to open a new track for the Jenkins snap in order to stay aligned with upstream LTS releases. This new track ought to be labeled the “lts” track.

Hello,

Per Process for aliases, auto-connections and tracks 2 , we need a 1-week voting/discussion period, so I’ll check back on the discussion and votes in a few days.

I have a couple of questions before casting my vote.

  1. Is there some commitment from upstream on maintenance of old versions?
  2. Are new versions backwards-incompatible? Meaning, e.g if I was running an older release on another track and try to install the latest one that’s on lts, will that just work, or do I need to migrate my data/configuration, or will things break horribly?

Yes. Jenkins has an LTS release cadence similar to Ubuntu’s LTS. See here.
