Ubuntu Core Upgrade Question

I was wondering I been testing ubuntu core in virtualbox, and I am still sort of confused on how version upgrades work? will ubuntu core be auto updated to newest version or will I have to manually trigger it? so far all I found out about ubuntu core upgrading is this man page http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/xenial/man1/ubuntu-core-upgrade.1.html

uh, that package needs to go from the ubuntu archive … early ubuntu core versions (around 2014/15) did not use a snap for the root filesystem but used update concepts from the ubuntu phone that required external tools … from Ubuntu Core 16 on this is not the case anymore, snapd manages the whole system now and will upgrade snaps (including the core (rootfs) and kernel snaps) automatically as they appear in the store.
