I just set up a new linux machine, installed snapd and tried to install an app through it.
Here’s the output I got when I did.
error: system does not fully support snapd: cannot mount squashfs image using "squashfs": -----
mount: /tmp/syscheck-mountpoint-3906756271: unknown filesystem type 'squashfs'.
dmesg(1) may have more information after failed mount system call.
So here’s my machines info.

Try with this scenario .
Reinstall squashfs-tools via this command :
sudo apt install --reinstall squashfs-tools
And execute this command to load the module :
sudo modprobe squashfs
Then reboot your machine .
@BlockClocker , if this scenario does not work. Perhaps, you should reinstall snapd
and restart the service .
.

Hi ! @BlockClocker .
There is an error here :
sudo modprobe squashfs
: not found/false
modprobe: ERROR: …/libkmod/libkmod-module.c:1047 command_do() Error running install command ‘/bin/f’ for module squashfs: retcode 127
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert ‘squashfs’: Invalid argument
user@host:~
So what do you make of it?
Try again to reload squashfs
.
sudo modprobe -r squashfs (to remove)
sudo modprobe squashfs (to load)
Then restart your computer .
Unfortunately, I got another error message when I tried this.
$ sudo modprobe -r squashfs
[sudo] password for user:
user@host:~
$ sudo modprobe squashfs
: not found/false
modprobe: ERROR: ../libkmod/libkmod-module.c:1047 command_do() Error running install command '/bin/f' for module squashfs: retcode 127
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'squashfs': Invalid argument
I think I’m just going to reinstall my Linux distro since I did some editing of the sysctl.config and other files to harden my system, which probably messed with snapd.
Try to install or reinstall kmod
used by squashfs
via this command :
sudo apt-get install --reinstall kmod
Then reinstall module-init-tools
via this command .
sudo apt-get install --reinstall module-init-tools
Then, try to load again squashfs
.
I think that, there are corrupted or missing files somewhere .
Then I’m reinstalling my OS. Fingers crossed.
@BlockClocker, did you try the last scenario ?
I did but apt said there was no install candidate for the module-init-tools package.
Sorry I forgot to save the output.
Anyway, I already reinstalled the OS.
Okay ! I see @BlockClocker .
Please, tell me if reinstalling the OS fixed the problem.
It did. Installing snapd then any snap software was the first thing I did (after updating the OS) and it worked!
