I created a snap in dev mode and all went well. The name is rh but at the time of reserving the name I found out it was a reserved name in snap. I’ve never heard of a command rh and there was no snap page for rh, so I thought the name was available.
I was wondering how long it takes to review a reserved name. It’s just to know what I can do in the meantime. It’s also because I’d like to speak about this project but I prefer to wait if I had to change the name, I hope not
I have handled your name request. As you can see from my reply, we encourage developers to use longer names for their snaps (rh tells prospective users nothing about the snap - is it a blood type checker? a resources humaines handler for french-speaking people? a tool for right-handed users? a rust http client? (the latter, so why not name the snap rust-http?).
I’m happy to help if you need any guidance choosing a more descriptive name for your snap. Also, as I mentioned, keep in mind that thanks to the alias mechanism, you could still have a nice, short rh command available for users, once the snap is installed.
Thanks for replying so quickly! And thanks for your response in the review process.
I appreciate your comment, I totally agree that it makes sense to have a name that is more descriptive.
I misunderstood how it works because I thought the snap name was also the command name. The alias mechanism would help me to use rh as a command name then. Perfect!
I will probably go with Rust Http then. I’ll think about it.
Many thanks for your help!
