Request to transfer ownership of audacity to snapcrafters

This is a request to transfer ownership of the audacity snap to the snapcrafters publisher.

Note: I am NOT the current owner/maintainer of the audacity snap, but have been in communication with the publisher @lucyllewy who is in favor of this request (although I understand we will need a +1 from @lucyllewy here). The corresponding GitHub repo is in good shape and based on conversations with @jnsgruk and @kenvandine this repo is a good candidate for migration to snapcrafters (both in the store and in GitHub).

Another note is that I have an outstanding PR in the existing GitHub repo, which probably will need to be re-submitted and reviewed once the repo is forked over.

Thanks!

Sorry for my tardiness in adding this request myself.

For the record:

  • I approve of the transfer of ownership from myself to snapcrafters (I am unable to add snapcrafters as a collaborator at the moment but will try to do so later today)
  • as a Core Snapcrafters (akin to co-project lead) I also approve from the snapcrafters side to accept the transfer

Thank you @lucyllewy !

@lucyllewy , thanks for the confirmation. Please do let me know when you add snapcrafters as the collaborator and I will complete the transfer.

Thanks!

If I understand correctly the next steps we need from @lucyllewy are:

  1. Add snapcrafters as a collaborator on the snap from the store side
  2. Fork the repo to the snapcrafters GitHub org

Once those are done I can work on submitting PRs for (i) the OpenVINO AI plugins (ii) updating some the CI to conform with other snapcrafters repos (@jnsgruk will need to provide store creds), (iii) updating the README to use the new template.

Another thing we should discuss is when to promote 3.7.1 from candidate to stable. 3.7.1 has been in candidate since February 2025 when @alexmurray brought the snap up to date, but the stable version has not changed since Sept 2022, so there is the potential for many users to be affected. Perhaps we should put a call out for testing to Audacity power users.

done: GitHub - snapcrafters/audacity: Snap of Audacity: Audio software for multi-track recording and editing

I also renamed the main branch from master to main in the process, so that it’s more inclusive.
