Request for joystick auto-connect request for Solarus snap

Hello, This post is to request joystick auto-connection for the Solarus Game Engine snap. I’m a member of the Solarus Team and maintainer of the Snap packaging for Solarus.

Solarus is a free and open-source game engine, licensed under GPL v3. It is written in C++ and uses SDL2 with OpenGL. Consequently, it is available on a large set of machines. Development began in 2006. The goal of the engine is to allow people to create their own Action-RPG games. Games for the Solarus Engine are also called “Solarus Quests”.

Because Solarus is a game engine, it requires users to manually connect the joystick interface if they want to use their joysticks or gamepads to play games written for this engine. We often encounter confused and frustrated users that are not aware of this requirement and therefore we need to provide them with support for manually connecting the joystick interface to the Solarus snap.

Threfore, we are kindly requesting Snapcraft to allow the Solarus snap to auto-connect the joystick interface for a better out-of-the box experience for our users. Thanks!

+1 from for auto-connecting the joystick interface as this fits the purpose of the snap and would be an expected auto-connect from users.

I agree, I looks reasonable and expected considering the functionality of the snap. +1 from me for granting Solarus auto-connection to the joystick interface.

+2 for, 0 against. Granting Solarus auto-connection to the joystick interface. This is now live.
