Hello Snapcraft Community,
My name is Francisca, and I’m a Linux user and video creator who has been trying to install DaVinci Resolve on my system running Ubuntu 24.04.2. DaVinci Resolve is an amazing professional video editing and color grading software that I rely on for my work.
Due to the complexity of the installation, I have always tried to install it via the terminal, following official guides carefully, installing all required libraries, and ensuring the latest NVIDIA drivers are properly set up. Despite this, I continue to face significant challenges getting DaVinci Resolve to run smoothly. Some instructions even suggest switching to distributions like Rocky Linux, but I would prefer to keep using my current Ubuntu setup without changing my operating system.
I believe having an official snap package for DaVinci Resolve would make a huge difference. It would simplify installation and updates, and ensure the software works smoothly across many Linux distributions, especially Ubuntu users like myself.
To avoid any licensing conflicts, perhaps this could be done initially using the free version of DaVinci Resolve that Blackmagic Design offers. This could make packaging and distribution more feasible while still benefiting many users.
Additionally, if there are any other solutions or packaging methods aside from snaps that could help simplify installation and improve compatibility, I would greatly appreciate hearing about them.
I understand the complexity of packaging such a heavy, hardware-dependent proprietary app, but an official snap from Blackmagic Design or collaboration with the Snapcraft team would be extremely valuable for many users.
Thank you for considering this request. If not, I’m not an expert developer, so I’m open to hearing any solutions you may have already found.
