Linux Mint 20.3 --- Install Fusion 360 from Snapd

Hi Would like to install 360 on my Linux Mint 20.3 laptop. I am 78 years old and a bit slow. Just the free personal version.

Can someone direct me to instructions to install using Snap(d)? I think it is the Ubuntu/Debian version.

Thankyou

Hi

Why can I not see this post on the forum ? And the number of views etc

Thanks

Charles

instructions about installing snapd on LinuxMint are at:

Hi Got Snapd installed ok now.

When I go to : https://snapcraft.io/install/fusion360/ubuntu#install

The terminal has message to say this version not recommended. -beta version.

Where do I locate another version within snapd of Fusion 360

Thankyou

Charles

This is the message

If you understand and want to proceed repeat the command including –devmode; if instead you want to install the snap forcing it into strict confinement repeat the command including --jailmode

what does ‘strict conefinement’ mean. Would that be ok for using a low level usage and basic commands etc

Thanks Charles

There is no version beside that one in beta available.

Strict confinement means that the application is isolated quite well from your system. Think of it like the mode apps use on smartphone operating systems, such as Android or iOS.

Devmode usually means that the developer hasn’t adapted or configured the application to work well in this confined mode. In devmode, the application has no restrictions, which might be okay if you trust the publisher and don’t need automatic updates etc.

See the GitHub page for detailed instructions on how the author expects you to install and update the snap: https://github.com/Thermionix/fusion360

In short: sudo snap install --beta fusion360 --devmode should do the trick for installing the snap.

Hi ppd

It seems my laptop, Gateway not up to it and I will need to upgrade graphics card, I think. Came up with a message working too slow and could not load the 360 home page correctly. Only got to the background squares and not tabs etc

Details of current card:
