It’s going to be at least a couple of weeks before I have time to do some gardening on this.

Some distributions obviously have some weird integration problems (some of them known), but you all have just been pasting a lot of information that’s not relevant and I need to sift through this mess before anything can be done. Also, at least go through what’s been reported to see if you’re just reporting a dupe? If you can’t even do that, how could I?

@cowsay your issue seems completely separate from this one, can you report it separately?

Everybody else, please stop with the huge banners about how much uptime you have. All they’re doing is going to make my work harder.

@chipaca is there something we can do to resolve this?

I’m also seeing this on Solus 4, as others have reported, but /snap/bin is indeed in the $PATH. So I don’t understand why it’s complaining.

Tried to remove snapd and install again. Tried even restarting after every command. Tried to run command using sudo and without sudo. Without sudo there is no warning, but app does not run anyway. In my case it is wickrme.

@chipaca - Is there an actual fix for this issue?

I’m really sorry I haven’t found time to curate this mess yet.

It’s a packaging / integration issue, and needs addressing in detail. So the question is, why does your distribution’s packaging not suffice to get your shell to pick up what snapd ships as tweaks to PATH? There are at least three components to that question.

We ship snippets that should get picked up by bash such that, if you restart your session after installing snapd, $PATH should include /snap/bin (or /var/lib/snapd/snap/bin if that’s where your distro puts things).

In your case in particular: Have you restarted your session after installing snapd? What’s $PATH? Have you tweaked your bash’s profile (or rc) such that it no longer picks up the distro’s defaults? That’s the line down which you need to look, for your machine. I expect everybody reporting here has different answers, and only for some will this research result in something we can fix.

it actually works just fine out of the box, maybe “check” (that produces that warning) needs to be re-checked?)

toor@suey:~$ sudo snap install microk8s --classic
[sudo] password for toor:
Warning: /snap/bin was not found in your $PATH. If you've not restarted your session since you
installed snapd, try doing that. Please see https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/9469 for more
         details.

microk8s v1.16.2 from Canonical✓ installed
toor@suey:~$ echo $PATH | egrep -o \/snap.*\:
/snap/bin:
toor@suey:~$

and if you do the same via sudo (sudo printenv PATH for example)?

@chipaca Just wanted to let you know that I had this same error.
I managed to “fix” it by not using sudo even-though it is suggested by the installation guide.
I should add that I was logged in as root anyway so I had no issues.
