I understand that strict confinement is generally preferred over classic.

I’ve tried the existing interfaces to make the snap to work under strict confinement.

You are using the gnome extension, that automatically injects an icon-theme interface into your snapcraft.yaml already, so you will not need to explicitly define it (that just results in a duplicated entry) …

You should edit the topic title again, add the privileged-interfaces tag and be a bit more descriptive about the remaining personal-files plug you want to get granted (why is it needed, who is the original owner of the dir you want to access, etc…)
