GitHub is preparing to release GitHub Desktop as a snap. GitHub Desktop needs to execute arbitrary binaries (editors and terminals for example) and therefore requires classic confinement.

The snap is already registered in the store and the GitHub Desktop release manager is a collaborator on the snap. Will we be transferring ownership of the snap from Snapcrafters to a GitHub operated store account in the coming days.

I would love to see how we can eventually transition software like GitHub desktop over to strict confinement although I understand why this is difficult today.
