Under Ubuntu Studio 22.04 LTS, Firefox snap would store (duplicate) downloads under /var/run//doc/<8-digit hex serial number>/ and /var/run//doc/by-app/snap.firefox/<8-digit hex serial number>/. The directories all had a timestamp of 1970-01-01. This was a pain, but at least the files were generally removed at the end of each session (although the parent directories were not). Since upgrading to Ubuntu Studio 24.04.1 LTS I cannot get Firefox snap downloads to be temporary. I have tried various settings in Firefox for download directory and various settings in about:config without achieving satisfactory results. Some settings even prevent Firefox from opening downloaded files in “System Handler” (my preferred approach, in order to be able to store them outside of the snap sandbox) or to even open the download directory from Firefox. What is the recommended way to make Firefox snap’s temporary downloads temporary? Some posts recommend writing a script to periodically purge ~/Downloads or ~/Downloads/firefox.tmp. Is this really necessary?
