Can't get assertions: timeout exceeded

status.snapcraft.io is all green, but I can’t seem to get assertions:

$ sudo snap install nextcloud --candidate
error: cannot perform the following tasks:
- Fetch and check assertions for snap "nextcloud" (10314) (Get https://api.snapcraft.io/api/v1/snaps/assertions/snap-declaration/16/njObIbGQEaVx1H4nyWxchk1i8opy4h54?max-format=3: net/http: request canceled (Client.Timeout exceeded while awaiting headers))

Due to the recent core update, the store is under a lot of load. Please bear with us whilst we get through the worst of it

Huh, don’t we randomly stagger updating to avoid those issues?

We do, but it gets bad even with that.

There are also bugs in snapd which cause it to aggressively retry, adding to the thundering herd.
