I’d like to request autoconnect of the audio-record and camera interfaces for the element-desktop snap. The snap is a full featured Matrix client which supports voice and video calls. See https://github.com/kenvandine/element-desktop/issues/7
Thanks for your consideration

The current description of the snap at Install Element Desktop on Linux | Snap Store only mentions chat, not audio/video capabilities:
All-in-one secure chat app for teams, friends and organisations. Keeps conversations in your control, safe from data-mining and ads. Talk to everyone through the open global Matrix network, protected by proper end-to-end encryption.
As such I expect users may be surprised to find that it has access to their camera and microphones by default - so either this description at least needs to be updated or when the user goes to make a video/audio call, the snap should try and detect if these plugs are connected at runtime and if not, prompt the user to manually connect them.

Ping @kenvandine - can you please update the snap’s description or comment on the possibility of doing prompting at runtime to connect the interface?
@alexmurray I’ve updated the description, hopefully that makes things clearer.
Thanks @kenvandine.
The snap now clearly states that it provides video conferencing capabilities so I think that auto-connect of audio-record and camera are appropriate and would be unsurprising for users. +1 from me for both.
+1 from me as well for auto-connect audio-record
and camera
since both are clearly required for element-desktop
to provide video conferencing and voice calls capabilities.
With 2 votes in favor, when can the store be updated?
+2 votes for, 0 votes against, granting auto-connect and use of audio-record
and camera
for element-desktop
. This is now live.
