I frequently use MIDI controllers for purposes other than audio. These devices are usually created under /dev/snd/. Whilst I don’t love the idea of granting alsa for this use case, it is the only interface granting access to MIDI devices as of now.
Perhaps we should consider adding access to these devices to a different interface, but for the time being, +1 from me (#voteFor) for granting gimp auto-connection to alsa interface.

I agree with @jslarraz, while this is not ideal as alsa might not be an expected interface from users, the functionality requested and limitations of other interfaces makes this a +1 (#voteFor) from me for granting auto-connection for the alsa interface for the gimp snap.
As a note, auto-connecting the alsa interface is known to potentially block other applications from recording or playing sound. We recommend including a warning about this possibility and instructions on how to disconnect the interface in any snap installation documentation you provide, as this will be especially unexpected by users in this case.

Hmm, considering the potential to block other applications we take back the auto connection request. It is easier to tell users who need MIDI to manually connect to alsa then telling to disconnect it
