The "disallow the author to edit the post after a certain duration" feature really irritates me :(

What would one do when they need to update their post after a long time? Ask one of the @admins to “make the post wiki” doesn’t seem to be a solution for some cases(like a low collaborating value post)…

A cowardly ping after two weeks of no activity…

I briefly looked into this. There’s a thread on the upstream discourse meta site.

The setting seems to be to protect against someone leaving benign comments or posts, then coming back months later and replacing the content with spam links.

Some have suggested just extending the number to a year or more, others say set to 0 or some stupid high value (2038 anyone? ).

I’m open to discussion on this. It feels to me like making it a year or more is fine. We tend to spot nefarious stuff and nuke it pretty quickly anyway.

I’d say set it to a ridiculously high value (2038 would be fine  ) and refine it when the “add spam after a certain time period occur” abuse surfaces.
