regarding the bad system call, you should be able to figure out which syscall is being denied with snappy-debug - I see fchown is mentioned further up the thread; we really need to get the fix for “chown to myself” into snapd IMO.
Edit: I’ve opened a new thread regarding fchown to change ownership to the current user.
