Requesting tracks for 'node' snap: 6, 8, 10

We have the ‘node’ snap working nicely now on edge, publishing nightly builds from the Node.js master branch and I’d like to move on to publishing proper release builds for actively supported release lines so they can be installed via tracks. I’d like to name the tracks after the major-version numbers, which is the primary way we refer to them in Node.js, so this is idiomatic.

Supported release lines are: 4, 6, 8 and 9, with 10 coming in April. I’d like to skip 4 as it’ll be EOL this year and isn’t heavily used anymore. 9 will also be EOL shortly after 10 comes out so it has a very short lifespan (evens become LTS FYI) but it’ll be handy to test this process to prepare for 10 which is going to be a very heavily adopted release.

So, my request is for the following track names:

  • 6
  • 8
  • 9
  • 10

+1. Node.js has well known major releases that are actively supported.

@sparkiegeek I’ll second the +1 on these tracks.

+1 from me too.

I’m not going to treat this as a blocker, but the procedure states

Please be sure to include a sentence or two explaining the rationale when voting @noise, @popey

Voting period has closed and the tally comes to 3 +1s and no dissenters.

I’ve gone ahead and created the four :twisted_rightwards_arrows:s for you @rvagg
