Snap: gpd-diagnostica — publisher: GPD Srl (private snap)
Revision 4 of gpd-diagnostica 0.1 was uploaded on 14 September 2026,
14:13 UTC, and held for manual review: human review required due to 'allow-installation' constraint (bool), recorded as
declaration-snap-v2_plugs_installation (vigilanza, shutdown). The
revision is uploaded but not released to any channel.
We are requesting installation permission for the shutdown
interface — not auto-connection.
What the snap does. It is the diagnostics and supervision component of an industrial IoT device based on Ubuntu Core: a Raspberry Pi 4 with a 4G modem, installed in unattended locations (vending machines, water dispensers, industrial control cabinets). The device has no screen, no keyboard and no operator on site.
Why shutdown is needed. The snap runs a supervision service that
restores connectivity when the 4G modem stops working. It applies a
ladder of remedies, from the lightest to the most invasive:
- restore automatic operator selection on the modem
- detach and re-attach the data connection
- reboot the modem
- reboot the device — last resort
The first three do not touch the host. The fourth does, and it is the only remedy left when the device has been offline on every channel for ten minutes. Without it, a device that loses connectivity stays unreachable until someone physically travels to it — which is precisely what these devices are deployed to avoid.
Scope of use. Only Reboot via org.freedesktop.login1. The snap
never powers the device off: a device that shuts down in an unattended
location cannot be switched back on remotely, so PowerOff would be a
fault, not a feature.
Why installation and not auto-connection. The connection itself is declared in our own gadget snap, which is part of our signed image, so it applies only to devices we build. What we need from the store is permission for the snap to be installed with the interface plugged.
Thank you.
