Orkas is an MIT-licensed, local-first desktop AI workforce. A Commander coordinates specialist agents through one chat, including local coding assistants. This request is submitted on behalf of the Orkas project team, with AI assistance.
Source and current Linux setup: https://github.com/Orkas-AI/Orkas License: Orkas/LICENSE at main · Orkas-AI/Orkas · GitHub Current release: Release Orkas 2026.9.22 · Orkas-AI/Orkas · GitHub
Linux currently uses the source setup; the release has macOS and Windows installers, not a Linux installer. The repository documents Node.js 22.12+ (24 recommended) and glibc 2.34+ for Linux. Local-first describes default device storage, not guaranteed offline inference. Model-provider costs and optional managed services are separate from the free open-source edition.
Packaging needs review of Electron/native dependencies, desktop integration, runtime downloads, and access to local coding-assistant processes and project files. No working package, sandbox compatibility, or distribution-specific runtime test is claimed here.
Could an interested packager help assess an Orkas snap, including whether the required local process and file access can work with appropriate confinement? This is a package request, not a store publication or maintenance commitment.
