Hi,
I’d like to request permissions to release the inference snap with the snapd-control plug in the global store, allowing installation, and if possible the auto-connection.
- name: inference
- description: Snap packaging of Inference Manager, providing a management layer for inference snaps.
- snapcraft: http://snapcraft.io/inference
- upstream: GitHub - canonical/inference · GitHub
- plugs:
- snapd-control:
- interface: snapd-control
- request-type: installation & auto-connection
- reasoning: The inference manager is expected to manage inference providers, currently only inference snaps. The management includes listing installed providers, installing and removing them, as well as enabling/disabling, and getting snap health.
- snapd-control:
The auto-connection is not an absolute requirement but rather to provide better usability. If reviewers support the installation but feel strongly against its auto-connection, we could avoid that and request the manual connection on-demand from the user.
We are in favor of using the snapd API from this confined snap, than pursuing a classic snap which would be less sandboxed and won’t work on Ubuntu Core.
To guard against unwanted snapd operations, the Inference Manager restricts its the operations to a shortlist of snaps that are known inference snaps maintained by Canonical. It rejects any operation by users on other snaps. Performing the operations requires the same level of privileges expected from a user directly calling the snap commands.
This snap is currently published under the Canonical IoT Labs account but will soon be transferred to the Ubuntu account.
Thanks
