The post mentions compression performance, which is something you do locally with snapcraft/snap or the builders do. Unless you’re building lots of snaps or spending substantial time compressing them there is no obvious performance gain.
There were however enhancements related to compression ratio of large files, which may or may not trickle down to snaps depending on whether the host doing the compression will have the newest version of zstd available.
Actually double checked in the source code. Only xz and lzo are supported. IDK why I was convinced that we introduced zstd a while ago.
