Opera Snap on Ubuntu: Media Keys Not Working

  • name: Opera
  • description: Opera web browser packaged as a Snap. Stable version 124.0.5705.42.
  • snapcraft: PRIVATE
  • upstream: PRIVATE
  • upstream-relation: The snap publisher is Opera Software, the upstream developer of the browser.
  • interfaces:
  • media-keys: request-type: auto-connection reasoning: Opera requires access to keyboard media keys (play/pause, next, previous) to control web media such as YouTube videos. Without this interface, the Snap build cannot recognize these keys, while Flatpak and .deb versions do. Auto-connection ensures users have consistent media key support out of the box.

Hey!

I don’t thing there is any media-keys interface (see the interfaces list). Could you please clarify what interface do you mean?

I think there’s some confusion here. @SnapEnjoyer are you involved in publishing the opera snap or are working on behalf of the publisher? This category is used by snap publishers to request approval for interfaces in the snaps they publish. At this point the store team will vet the request and grant/not-grant it.

If you want to the opera snap to add a new interface plug, you should contact the snap publisher and ask them to add it and if needed request an approval. Neither the snap store team, nor any other team (snapd, snapcraft) can modify snaps we have not published ourselves.

Unfortunately the opera snap publisher hasn’t listed many contact points in their snap:

publisher: Opera (opera-software✓)
store-url: https://snapcraft.io/opera
links:
  website:

but they seem to have some guides on how to report bugs: https://forums.opera.com/topic/85959/report-your-bug-here

Thanks. I’m just an inexperienced end user.

Thanks for your reply. I am just an end user, not a developer. My request is simply that the keyboard media keys (play/pause, next, previous) work in Opera Snap on Ubuntu, the same way they do in the Flatpak and .deb versions. I don’t know the technical interface name, I only wanted to report that this functionality is missing in the Snap build and ask if it can be enabled. Could you please advise what would be the right way to request this?
