As far as camera/audio portals go, that is currently tied in to PipeWire. I suspect Ubuntu will eventually adopt it, but we are not there yet. It’s also requires modifications on the application side (somewhat simpler if they’re accessing devices through a framework like GStreamer).

Do you mean that the camera and audio portals only work on distributions shipping PipeWire? How should applications handle some portals working and some not? Is there a way for an application to know that the camera portal does not work on that distro?

I’ve started a documentation page about portals in snaps at XDG desktop portals. However, I did not find much information about which portals are supported in snaps, and which portals are supported by Ubuntu. Is there any information available on this?
