Help with JavaFX snap

I’m trying to port my Arch Linux package to a snap. This is what I have so far:

name: bisq-desktop
version: "master"
summary: Peer-to-peer exchange to trade various curriencies for bitcoin
description: |
Cross-platform desktop application that allows users to trade national currency (dollars, euros, etc) for bitcoin without relying on centralized exchanges
confinement: devmode
grade: stable

apps:
  bisq-desktop-launch:
    command: desktop-launch opt/bisq/bin/bisq-desktop
    plugs: [home, network, network-bind, x11]
  bisq-desktop:
    command: opt/bisq/bin/bisq-desktop
    plugs: [home, network, network-bind, x11]

parts:
  bisq:
    plugin: gradle
    override-build: |
      ./gradlew build

      # Install executable.
      install -d "${SNAPCRAFT_PART_INSTALL}/opt/bisq"
      cp -r build/app/* "${SNAPCRAFT_PART_INSTALL}/opt/bisq"

      # Install desktop launcher icon
      install -Dm644 package/linux/icon.png "${SNAPCRAFT_PART_INSTALL}/usr/share/pixmaps/bisq.png"

    source: https://github.com/bisq-network/bisq-desktop.git
    source-tag: v0.7.1
    build-packages: [openjfx]
    stage-packages: [openjfx]
    after: [desktop-gtk3]

  # Install desktop launcher
  desktop-file:
    plugin: dump
    source: .
    organize:
      'desktop.bisq': usr/share/applications/bisq.desktop
    after:
      - bisq

# vim:tabstop=2 shiftwidth=2 expandtab

When I run bisq-desktop I get the following errors: https://bpaste.net/show/981b0d969bed

When I run bisq-desktop.bisq-desktop-launch I get the error /snap/bisq-desktop/x5/bin/desktop-launch: line 487: /home/david/opt/bisq/bin/bisq-desktop: No such file or directory

Is there something I should be doing for a JavaFX application? Do I need to create a wrapper to get the right path for fonts and libraries?

the app seems to be using gtk3 stuff (judging by the logs), did you try using desktop-gtk3 instead of desktop-glib-only ?

@orga I tried desktop-gtk3 but I got the same error when NOT using the destkop-launch command. When I use desktop-launch I get a different error which show show in my first post now.

Well, i guess your focus should be on:

Error: JavaFX detected no fonts! Please refer to release notes for proper font configuration

Which seems to be the first actual error in the log …

All the desktop launchers (i wasnt sure about the -glib-only one which was another reason to suggest -gtk3 above) export FONTCONFIG_PATH and FONTCONFIG_FILE to the app environment via the desktop-launch wrapper, somehow your app does not pick up that env var and looks in /etc for the config instead of $SNAP/etc …

I think I got it working. I needed my command to use the $SNAP variable.

apps:
  bisq-desktop:
    command: desktop-launch "$SNAP/opt/bisq/bin/bisq-desktop"
    plugs: [home, network, network-bind, x11]

I still get some font errors but they don’t appear to be causing the application to fail. Why would I be getting these errors?

As i said above already, it seems your app (or the java environment) hardcodes /etc/fonts somewhere to access font configurations while it should use $SNAP/etc … normally apps simply pick up the proper FONTCONFIG_PATH from the environment, this one does not seem to do it, probably an issue with gradle ? (i can only guess here what in the stack is at fault)

I’m able to run my JavaFX now. Here is the repository I’m using to track changes to my snapcraft.yaml file: https://github.com/dmp1ce/bisq-snap
