supported-category: my research says you cannot execute programs outside of your snap
reasoning: my research says you cannot execute programs outside of your snap, the program runs ‘pwsh’ and acts as a simple GUI/frontend.
I understand that contained it preferred, my other two snaps are contained. I don’t know what interfaces support what I am trying to do, if there are any please advise.
This is a Snap Store classic confinement request for mpwshell, a PowerShell GUI wrapper. The developer is requesting classic access because strict confinement prevents the app from executing external programs like pwsh on the host system, and they are asking reviewers to suggest alternative interfaces if any exist.
Classic confinement is a sensitive matter and it is reserved for mature, well-known applications published by mature, well-known entities. As of today, I believe that mpwshell doesn’t meet this criteria because of the following reasons:
The project seems to be very fresh, according to the upstream repository
The projects seems to have little/none community around according to upstream repository (contributors, issues, PRs, etc.)
I could not find evidences that the project has a strong enough user base currently
That is why I can not move ahead with your request.
If there any existing interface that permits (a) execution of a program (b) execution of a program from a predefined list (c) execution of a snap (d) execution of a snap from a predefined list?
I do not wish it to be a classic app, all I want is it to be able to execute an existing snap, namely powershell.
That is not practical. The app I want to run is a classic app which can already run any other program, if I package it in my app I then end up with a crippled shell which can’t do its job.
I understand the technical justification on why mpwshell needs classic but due to the reasons presented above, I am unable to move ahead with this request.
