Snapcraft 9.1 is in the latest/candidate and 9.x/candidate channels. The tentative release data to stable is 2026-09-08T05:00:00Z.

Highlights include:

  • Pro support for core24 and core26 snaps
  • New kernel and initrd plugins
  • .NET 11 and ROS 2 Lyrical extensions

We wil be delaying this release for about a week, as we need to improve error messages for candid credentials (Issue · GitHub).

oHi,

A/ Same problems than 9.0

  • A1 - Need sudo for snapcraft clean sometimes

snapcraft internal error: ClientConnectionFailed(“(‘Connection aborted.’, PermissionError(13, ‘Permission denied’))”)

  • A2 - Python plugin environment is not isolated from the rest of the snap during build (existed prior to 9.0)

  • A2bis - Python plugin does not work if runtime python version is different than snapcraft python packages (existed prior to 9.0)

  • A3 - Python plugin does not load modules at runtime.
    environment definition is still needed:

PYTHONPATH: $SNAP/lib/python3.13/site-packages

  • A4 - linters cannot be used with gpu extension (false warnings)

  • A5 - name space problem

cannot preserve mount namespace of process 96690 as transmissionbt-desktop-tak.mnt: Invalid argument
unexpected eof from helper process

Need to launch app and daemon several times after install/refresh

  • A6 - KDE extension not working on some systems (on 9.0 was working with rev. 58 of kf6-core24 but not rev. 64)
qt.qpa.xcb: could not connect to display
  • A7 - Build cannot install already installed snap dependencies (from extension or plug) randomly
Error installing snap 'mesa-2404' from channel 'latest/stable'.

This error may use 90% of my day…

B/ New problems since 9.1

Thanks for the feedback, we have some of those in our backlog for the ones you submitted bug reports for. I’m glad that you haven’t encountered any new regressions in 9.1.
