Auto-connect audio-record for Steam

name: steam
description: Snap of Valve's Steam client
snapcraft: https://github.com/canonical/steam-snap/blob/main/snap/snapcraft.yaml
upstream: PRIVATE
upstream-relation: Snap is published by Canonical, not directly supported by Valve
plugs:
  audio-record:
    request-type: auto-connection
reasoning: Some games require audio recording to function properly, and may unexpectedly crash or encounter issues. Diagnosing the issue is very hard as a user, since it's not clear why games crash or fail to work when the plug isn't connected (e.g. https://github.com/canonical/steam-snap/issues/316). Audio recording is quite common in games and in the Steam client itself, so this is a reasonable usage of the plug.

That’s a big +1 from me. Steam already has a fair bit of access and quite a few games do expect microphone access for in-game voice chat. And they often just crash on start, making it look like the game doesn’t work on Linux. An example is REPO, joining any game just crashes. Connecting audio-record fixes it, but it’s not discoverable by the actual user.

+1 from me as well to grant auto-connection to audio-record for steam.

Hello @ashtonn

Given the reasoning provided, this is a +1 from my side also, for granting auto-connection of the audio-record interface to the steam snap.

+3 votes for, 0 votes against, publisher being Canonical employee is already vetted, fast tracking the request and granting auto-connection to audio-record interface. This is now live.
